On a recent trip to Los Cabos Mexico I had the pleasure of attending a presentation given by Brian Price.
"Brian Price has been the Canadian coxswain of the Men's Eight since 2001.
He is a survivor of childhood cancer, leukemia of which he underwent chemotherapy and a harsh drug regime as a child, which played havoc with his thyroid and stunted his growth.
This left him smaller than he should have been but the perfect size for a coxswain standing at 5'4" tall and 121 lbs.
His favorite saying is "Without having had cancer, I would not have become a World and Olympic Champion."
Brian is an Olympic Gold Medalist after dominating the field at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing China and in 2012 at the Summer Olympics in Great Britain won the silver, while USA finished with Bronze."
Brian's presentation was extremely inspiring, exciting and tear-jerking. At times I was covered in goosebumps from the excitement of his stories, and others when I had a huge lump in my throat from wanting to cry. His message left me thinking about how I could & should do things differently in my own life- both personally and professionally.
The one key thing that really stood out for me in Brian's presentation was the topic about "complacency", and how so many of us become complacent in all areas of our lives. We take the people we love for granted, assuming that they will be there each and every day, and we become complacent in our professional lives as well- forgetting the people that have helped us get to where we want to be.
I always love it when the fire gets ignited under my seat again and Brian's presentation that evening, certainly did that. Hearing him tell the story of his young childhood life and how those difficult events instilled in him the qualities of determination, courage & perseverance all of which he needed to become an Olympic medalist. It made me realize, there's nothing I can't accomplish if I give it my all.
Starting your own business can be extremely daunting, there are many times you doubt yourself and wonder if you are doing the right thing. I love what I'm doing, and I know I have the passion and determination to be successful at achieving my goals.
So, without becoming complacent, I'd like to thank so many of you who have helped me & continue to help me along this exciting journey-I am so grateful for your support and encouragement.
