We know this is the month that everyone wants to get back in shape and perhaps do a little detoxifying to clean out the mind/body after the holiday season.

The process of detoxification helps the body to cleanse from the inside out and renews your ability to maintain optimal health. But it’s important to know that not all the harmful stuff comes what we eat, we actually create the most toxicity in our bodies with our minds.

Clearing your mind of any negative thoughts is really essential- for some of us the term “meditation” can sound a little scary, but quite simply, it’s just being aware of what that little voice inside your head is saying.

It’s your choice whether you want to focus on fearful, anxiousness or negative thoughts or positive, uplifting and reassuring thoughts. Think about how your body feels and what your posture looks like when you are thinking negatively.

Here are a few simple and enjoyable techniques that we hope will make "detoxifying" this January a pleasurable experience.

1.) First thing in the morning before heading for your morning coffee, slice ¼ of a lemon into a nice warm cup of water, the lemon helps to cleanse the liver/body before starting your day.

2.) January is a good month to remove some of the foods that aren’t great for our mind/body- sugar, alcohol, dairy, red meats and white flour. Eating more vegetables and proteins is a great way to shed a few of those extra pounds that you may have added over the holidays. Eating more trail nuts is a great way to satisfy any mid-day cravings or hunger.

3.) Try to get a good sweat on- either at the gym or a hot yoga class to rid of the body of any toxins it may be hanging on to.

4.) Before having a hot shower or steam apply this easy to roll on detox remedy by Saje – it’s called the “Super Detox Remedy”, check out their site for more information on how to use effectively.

5.) Last but not least and absolute favourite is to take a Full Moon “Sole Bath” which happens to be on January 23rd this month- here is a do-it-yourself home recipe from a Wellness Retreat called Grail Springs. It's very simple and absolutely fabulous.
